keep watch for the exit to their motel. A few minutes later she said, "I've got a delivery tonight."
"Okay."
"Downtown. At one of the malls across from the Mormon Temple. You ever seen it?"
"The Temple? Nope."
"It's pretty impressive."
"You trying to get rid of me already?" Cyrus chuckled.
"I'll be right across the street. I just thought it would be more fun than listening to some old geezer bitching about the quality of my stones."
He wondered why all of a sudden she was being so nice. "You won't need me?"
"I don't think so. I've done business with this guy before. He's okay."
"All right. Hanging out with the Mormons might be fun."
They found their exit, checked into the motel and showered. At five o'clock they dined on rare roast beef and homemade bread at a place in the downtown area that had once belonged to Brigham Young, a man famous to the non-Mormon world for being San Francisco Forty-Niners quarterback Steve Young's great-great-great grand-something. After the meal, they stood in front of the high-rise building that housed one of the major downtown shopping malls. Across the street, giant spotlights highlighted the high gothic spires of the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; the Mormons to everyone else. The structure would have been impressive anywhere, but situated as it was in the middle of Temple Square with its sister buildings, which included the world-famous Mormon Tabernacle, it was truly awe inspiring.
Cyrus watched until Kyna disappeared into the mall, the briefcase still clutched firmly in her right hand, and then he crossed the street. It was a bit after six P.M., yet scores of people were still milling about inside the walled square. He noted the crowd was predominantly white and well dressed. The women seemed to favor long flower-print dresses, while
